Our HAIR

The scalp of an adult person contains about 100.000 to 150.000 hairs. A person loses an average of 50 to 100 strands of hair per day, but hair renew continuously and new strands of hair replace those lost daily.

Hair is made of a tough protein called keratin. A hair follicle anchors each hair into the skin. The hair bulb forms the base of the hair follicle. In the hair bulb, living cells divide and grow to build the hair shaft.

Blood vessels nourish the cells in the hair bulb, and deliver hormones that modify hair growth and structure at different times of life

Life CYCLE

Each hair follows a specific life cycle divided into three phases: Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen.

• ANAGEN is the phase of active growth and lasts approximately 3-5 years.
• CATAGEN is the resting phase where the hair stops growing and lasts about 2-3 weeks.
• TELOGEN is the falling phase where the follicle recedes and hair begins to fall in preparation for the development of new hair. The phase lasts
approximately 3 months. After the Telogen phase begins the return to the Anagen phase.

On average, approximately 84% of scalp hairs are in the Anagen phase, 1-2% are in the Catagen phase, and 10-15% are in the Telogen phase.

Hair Loss

Hair loss is a very common condition that affects up to 50% of men and women throughout their lives.

Many men and women may notice a thinning of hair starting in their 30’s and 40’s. Hair Loss in MEN is progressive and initially localized beginning at the hairline. The hairline gradually moves backward (recedes) and forms an “M” shape. Eventually, the hair becomes finer, shorter, and thinner, and creates a U-shaped pattern of hair around the sides of the head.
